200 000 is the number of Korean children adopted since the end of the Korean War in 1953. A phenomenon of gigantic proportions, which reached its peak in the 1980s, when between 6,500 and 9,000 Korean children were adopted each year.
For several years now, Korean adoptees have been raising their voices all around the world, and their testimonies concur to depict a flawed intercountry adoption system. Between claims and recognition of illegal procedures, Korean adoptees are now demanding repair from the states responsible.
Among these countries is Belgium. Despite its small size, our country has welcomed almost 3 700 Korean adoptees, ranking 7th worldwide in terms of the number of Korean children taken in. This relatively high number of adoptions obviously raises questions: under what circumstances did they take place? To what extent was the Belgian government aware of what was happening on its soil, and what responsibility did it bear for the scale of the phenomenon?
In concrete terms, our aim is to lift the veil on Belgium's role in international adoptions involving South Korea. But more than that, it's the whole question of international adoption that we want to examine. The aim of our investigation is to understand to what extent the system that has been set up between South Korea and Belgium can be considered a special case or the simple expression of a systematic phenomenon.
Our media approach will be transmedia. You'll be able to find our content in various forms (videos, podcasts, texts) on social networks, but also on our website, which will evolve as our investigation progresses. If you decide to support us financially, you'll also have access to a newsletter that will let you follow our progress as if you were part of the team. The final result of our year-long investigation will take the form of an online web-series.

To be around Lara is to be lulled along a tranquil river. With her lightning zenatitude, she always manages to calm us in moments of stress. She's like our angel fallen from heaven.
Armed with her graphic tablet and her creativity, Hélène is our mascot's super-mother. Be careful, though, as her calm demeanor can give way to outbursts of madness after long hours of work in good company.
Luna is the globetrotter of the group. Always in between trips, she never forgets to pack a book in her suitcase. With her bewitching voice and her ideas bursting out, she always manages to captivate her audience.
